Uganda’s Motocross Cranes flagged off to Harare, aim high in 2025 FIM Africa championship

Uganda’s 36-man motocross squad is set to make a strong impression at the 2025 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) Championship, taking place from August 15 to 17 at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Motocross Cranes have consistently been top-three finishers in Africa and twice runners-up, but they’re now gunning for the elusive title they last held in 2012.

Led by Arthur Blick Jr., the team was flagged off today morning at National Council of Sports in Lugogo.

The team’s preparation has been intense, with an advance technical team already in Harare working alongside some riders to fine-tune machines and get familiar with the track.

This meticulous approach is expected to pay off as Uganda competes across all categories, including MX 50 juniors, MX85cc elite class, MX125, MX1 (Open), Veterans, and Women.

The Motocross Cranes will face stiff competition from top riders across the continent, including South Africa, Kenya, and Madagascar.

South Africa has already announced its team, featuring a mix of emerging talents and seasoned competitors.

Madagascar will also be a strong contender, with five riders participating in various categories, including 50cc, 125cc, and 450cc.

With their blend of youthful speed and veteran experience, Uganda’s riders are determined to turn silver into gold.

The team’s history speaks for itself, with a win in 2012, second-place finishes in Kenya (2016) and Morocco (last year), and consistently third-place finishes in other editions.

The federation acknowledges the support of the National Council of Sports and rider parents in making the trip possible.
