The Inaugural KK Football Tournament concludes with Super Select's triumph

On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Lufula Grounds in Gayaza hosted the highly anticipated final of the 2024/25 KK Football Tournament.

Organized and sponsored by KK Property Agency, the tournament brought together 20 teams from Kasangati Town Council, commencing on October 3, 2024.

In a thrilling finale, Super Select edged out Boda-Boda Katale of Gayaza with a 3-2 victory, securing the championship title. The winning team boasted an impressive lineup, featuring Super League players.

Super Select dominated the initial proceedings, scoring three unanswered goals to establish a 3-0 lead.

Farid Rashid (UPDF), Vianey Sekajugo (URA FC), and Kenneth Kimera (Vipers SC) contributed to the team’s tally.

However, Boda-Boda Katale staged a late comeback, with Sam Ssenyonjo (Express FC) and Sam Ssemugugu (Lugazi FC) scoring in the final seven minutes to narrow the deficit to 3-2.

Despite a missed opportunity by Ssemugugu, the match concluded with Super Select emerging victorious.

Tournament sponsor Hajji Umar Kityo of KK Property Agency expressed his satisfaction with the event’s outcome, stating, “I’m delighted to have reached the climax of our inaugural tournament. Our objective of uniting the community through football has been achieved. We’ve discovered tremendous talent in Gayaza, and this annual initiative will provide a platform for these players to shine.”

In the third-place playoff, Namavundu defeated Lufula FC.

The award ceremony saw Super Select receive a bull, trophy, medals, and a new set of jerseys, courtesy of KK Property Agency.

The runners-up, Boda-Boda Katale, were awarded a he-goat, medals, and jerseys, while the third-place team received jerseys and medals.

Individual accolades were bestowed upon Moses Ayebare (Boda-Boda Katale) for the Golden Glove, Kenneth Kimera for top scorer with nine goals, Yasin Kinene (Boda-Boda Katale) as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), and Sanyu FC for the Fair Play award.

Kasangati Town Council Mayor Tom Muwonge, the chief guest, addressed the gathering, expressing concern about the rapid conversion of playing fields into real estate developments. “The rate at which playing fields are being invaded by developers in Kasangati Town Council is alarming.

As authorities, we strive to preserve these fields, but the lack of adequate playing spaces has adversely affected sports in Kasangati, leading to increased idleness among the youth.”
