St. Noa Girls – Zana stun KIU Rangers in a tightly contested friendly duel
The 2019 Federation of East African Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games girls basketball champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana have intensified preparations ahead of this year’s edition.
The Zana based School have this evening beaten National Basketball League (NBL) side Kampala International University (KIU) Rangers in a nail biting clash held in Kansanga.
St. Noa came from a quarter down to win 99-89 in a tightly contested friendly duel.
KIU Rangers led 33-30 in the first quarter before the school girls bounced back to take a 50-45, 81-63 and 99-89 lead in the second, third and fourth quarters respectively.
Today’s win follows their home slim 80-76 loss against another National Basketball League side JKL Dolphins yesterday.
Previously, St. Noa won 97-62 against NBL semi finalists UCU Lady Cannons on a cold Friday evening, the 2nd August 2024 at UCU in Mukono.
The win came after their (St. Noa) slim 76-74 defeat to another National Basketball League (NBL) side Kampala International University (KIU) Rangers two days ago.
The Zana based side will have three more friendly matches. This Thursday, St. Noa will have a rematch against JKL Dolphins at YMCA in Wandegeya.
On Friday, they will visit UCU Lady Cannons for another rematch.
They will play against the same KIU for the third time at St. Noa on Saturday afternoon.
St. Noa won the 2024 Wakiso Region championship beating the all time champions St. Mary Kitende by 67-49 in the final.
The Zana based side lost 33-30 to St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School in the National championship final held in Ndejje.
St. Noa have won only one FEASSSA trophy. They beat St. Mary’s Kitende 73-62 in the 2019 final in Arusha, Tanzania.
St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende is the most successful side in girls basketball in Uganda, with 12 National titles in a row.
In the last ten years, Kitende have won five FEASSSA championships.
They have only missed the 2018 Musanze Rwanda championship. They lost to Buddo SS in a 74-34 landslide score.
In the following year’s championship in Arusha, Tanzania in 2019, Kitende lost to a fasting growing giant St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana in the final.
This year’s FEASSSA championship will start on 16th August 2024.
Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School in Bukedea are co-host to this year’s edition.
