24 Coaches Earn Licenses in World Athletics CECS Level One Course
The 2025 World Athletics Coaches Education and Certification System Level One Course has successfully concluded, with 24 participants from across Uganda receiving their licenses to operate as qualified coaches.
The seven-day course, held at Kyambogo University and Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, was funded by the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) through the Solidarity Fund.
Donald Rukare, UOC President, praised the initiative, saying, “Thanks for this vision to empower athletes. A coach is a parent, guardian, and mentor. Coaches play a vital role in nurturing and developing athletes globally, and having them qualified is hope for the future.”
Uganda Athletics President Dominic Otuchet emphasized the importance of coaches in sports development, stating, “Our quest is to make our sport more comprehensive and spread to different parts of the country. Good performance will come when coaches do their work, and coaches will do their work better when empowered.”
The course featured practical sessions with demonstration athletes from Kireka UEA Primary School, led by Deputy Headteacher Hamidah Namugalu. The participants, comprising 16 males and 8 females, gained valuable knowledge and skills to enhance their coaching abilities.
With this certification, the coaches are now equipped to contribute to the growth and development of athletics in Uganda, aligning with the country’s quest for excellence in sports .
