2024/25 Finance Trust Women Super League: Six talking points from match day two

The Finance Trust Women Super League continued over the weekend with six thrilling games, yielding surprises and heartbreaking moments at full-time.

Kampala Queens secured their first victory of the season, while Kawempe maintained their top spot on the table.

Meanwhile, Uganda Martyrs suffered a back-to-back defeats to remain winless after two attempts.

Here are six key takeaways from matchday two:

1. Agnes Nabukenya’s Scoring Streak Continues

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win over Wakiso Hill WFC at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

Teenager Agnes Nabukenya has scored four goals in just two games, including a hat-trick against Rines SS WFC in the first game and a goal in the second outing against Wakiso Hill.

She is now the league’s top scorer and only eight goals shy of her total from last season, when she won the Golden Boot.

However, this season Nabukenya still has more than 20 games to play, unlike the previous season, which had only 18.

2. The Olila High School WFC’s Unprofessional Conduct.

On Saturday, Olila High School WFC protested a penalty awarded to Rines SS WFC by referee Racheal Nantongo at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

The head coach, Ronald Eletu, instructed his players to leave the pitch before the penalty was taken.

The incident happened in the final minute under the three added time to the final whistle.

3. Charles Ayiekoh Mbuzi Lulula Needs to Improve.

Despite registering their first victory, Kampala Queens’ win was unconvincing. The style of play, particularly in the second half was too lacking. Shamirah Nalugya’s lone goal secured three points against She Corporate FC.

With notable signings made before the season, Ayiekoh should aim to win games convincingly to achieve their target of winning the league.

4. Rogers Nkugwa Leaves Wakiso Hill WFC

After securing a point in their opening game against Kampala Queens at Lugogo, Wakiso Hill WFC suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to defending champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC at their home at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

Reports indicate that head coach Rogers Nkugwa left the club due to financial challenges. Assistant coach Rajab Buyinza was also absent on match day two.

5. Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC Struggles

For the first time in history, Uganda Martyrs have lost their opening two league games without scoring a single goal.

Many Key players departed the club, and their replacements have yet to make an impact. Coaches must improve the team’s performance before the situation worsens.

6. Lady Doves Finds a Good Coach?

Masindi-based Lady Doves appointed Med Nyanzi at the start of the season, and he has collected four points from a possible six.

Nyanzi’s side secured a convincing 3-1 win away from home against Amus Women FC in match day one after their 1-all draw with Tooro Queens in their season opener.
