Zana Mixed Secondary School has laid down an early marker in the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Wakiso District girls’ basketball qualifiers with a commanding opening-day display.

Held on a cold Wednesday, 18th March, at Buddo Secondary School, the championship drew participation from 14 girls’ teams and 16 boys’ teams, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive contest.

Pitted in Group D, Zana Mixed Secondary School produced a ruthless performance to dismantle St. Augustine College–Wakiso 40-10 in their only fixture of day one, immediately signaling their intent.

This marks only the second year of participation for Zana Mixed in schools’ basketball, having made their debut last year.

In that maiden campaign, the side stunned many by reaching the Wakiso district semi-finals, where they fell to the giants, St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School–Kitende.

They went on to achieve an even greater milestone at national level, reaching their first-ever USSSA championship quarter-final.

Elsewhere in the girls’ category, reigning champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School–Zana began their title defence in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 53-15 victory over Gayaza High School.

Last year’s Wakiso, National, and FEASSA finalists, St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School–Kitende, also impressed with a 35-17 win against Kira Secondary School in their opening fixture.

Hosts Buddo Secondary School maintained their strong home presence, registering a convincing 36-15 triumph over Merryland.

In the boys’ category, holders and hosts Buddo Secondary School delivered a dominant performance, thrashing St. Jonah SS 53-08, while Namugongo Secondary and Vocational School secured a 20-10 win over Amity Secondary School.

Selected Results – Day One:
St. Noa 53-15 Gayaza High School
Buddo 36-15 Merryland
Buddo 57-08 St. Jonah SS (Boys)
Namugongo Vocational 20-10 Amity (Boys)
Kitende 35-17 Kira SS
