USPA votes Lydia Nakidde, Kitara FC duo as February best

The Uganda Sports press Association( USPA) have today 4th March 2024 voted Lydia Nakidde , Agnes Nabukenya, Brian Ssenyondo and Deo Kasozi as February best sports personalities for their outstanding performances in the month.

The voting was done during the monthly USPA Assembly held at Copper Chimney Restaurant at National Council of Sports headquarters in Lugogo.

Lady weightlifter Lydia Nakidde who won a bronze medal in the African Senior Championship in Ismaily, Egypt garnered 325 voted to beat golfer Ronald Rugumayo and Uganda U-17 Women’s National football Team (Teen Cranes) on 245 and 240 votes respectively to scoop the Nile Special USPA sportsman/lady of the month.

 

Nakidde finished 3rd out of 10 competitors in the 61kg category in Egypt last month to win a bronze medal which was a very considerable continental achievement for the country.

The USPA Sports personality award went to Kitara FC president Doe Kasozi for his tremendous administrative job.


His club (Kitara FC) is currently the Uganda Premier League leader with …..points whilst, they have recently eliminated sleeping giants SC. Villa from Uganda Cup by a 2-0 win to storm quarter-final stage.

The young sports personality award was scooped by Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC and Teen Cranes forward Agnes Nabukenya.

Nabukenya scored in the Teen Cranes 1-1 draw against Cameroon at St. Mary’s Stadium-Kitende in the first leg of the U-17 Women World Cup Qualifiers.

She was also on the score sheet as Uganda bagged a convincing 3-1 victory in the return leg held in Yaunde as Uganda eliminated giants Cameroon to progress to the next round of the U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers for African zone.

After four days from her return from Cameroon, Nabukenya scored the only goal in Kawempe’s 1-0 win over Uganda Martyrs’ WFC in the FUFA Women Super league.

Brian Sengendo (Kitara FC tactician) beat Marshal Tchumcam to scoop the Support/Assist award.
Ssenyondo got 395 votes compared to Marshal’s 375.
