UPL: Wakiso Giants Seek Crucial Win Against KCCA FC
By: Geoffrey Mugabi
The matchday twelve of the Startimes Uganda Premier League concludes today, Sunday, as Wakiso Giants FC hosts KCCA FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
In the highly anticipated match that will kickoff at 3 pm, struggling Wakiso Giants and KCCA FC will be battling for three crucial points.
In the last matchday, Wakiso Giants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Police FC in Kavumba, while KCCA FC lost 0-1 to Express at home.
Wakiso Giants has endured an eight-game winless streak, drawing twice and losing the rest. For KCCA FC, they’ve only managed one victory in their last five games and will be fighting to narrow the gap at the top.
Bengo is under immense pressure, and a victory over KCCA FC could bring some relief for his role, just as it could for Abdullah Mubiru at Kasasiro Boys.
Last season, Wakiso edged out KCCA FC 2-1 at home; however, the latter boasts a better head-to-head record against the Purple Sharks, having won seven of the last ten games compared to Wakiso Giants FC’s two.
A victory for Wakiso Giants FC will help them move one point behind safety, while KCCA FC will close the gap at the top to just four points if they emerge victorious on Sunday afternoon.
Derrick Nsibambi, Elvis Mwanje, Abubaker Mayanja, and Ibrahim Juma are doubtful for this game. Hassan Muhamud returns after missing the Express game due to suspension.
Teenager Brian Ijara is away with the U17 National Team, preparing for the AFCON U17 CECAFA Zonal qualifiers, while Filbert Obenchan is out due to a knee injury.
For Wakiso Giants, they welcome Marvin Mukiibi and Baker Lukooya back from exams, while Arinda Ambrose is also available after missing the last game due to suspension.
However, Alex Komakech, Rahmat Ssenfuka, Derrick Kaija, and striker Herbert Asiimwe are ruled out due to injuries.
