Umukhukha Jude Mike Mudoma flags off UMEA Solidarity Games as numbers rise significantly

In a glamorous opening ceremony graced by the Umukhukha III of Inzu Ya Masaba, Jude Mike Mudoma, the 2026 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games officially got underway at Mbale City Stadium on Friday evening, April 3, 2026.

This year’s edition has attracted over 46 schools, with a total of 1,491 student-athletes—719 of whom are girls—forming 110 teams competing across the tournament.

The figures mark a notable rise from the 2025 edition, which featured 40 schools, 100 teams, and 989 athletes, reflecting the steady growth and expanding appeal of the competition.

Participants will compete in eight disciplines: netball, football, volleyball, handball, chess, scrabble, badminton, and table tennis, showcasing both athletic prowess and intellectual skill.

Addressing the large gathering, Jude Mike Mudoma underscored the importance of sport in national development, urging Ugandans to embrace it beyond recreation.

“Let us not regard these games as mere leisure, but as an opportunity to strengthen our faith, unity, and discipline.

We are fully committed to supporting these young people in developing their talents,” he remarked.

On the field of play, the official opening fixture saw hosts Nkoma Secondary School held to a goalless draw by Kyadondo Secondary School in a tightly contested encounter.

Having commenced on Friday, April 3, the games are scheduled to climax on Monday, April 6, at Mbale City Stadium.
