Uganda’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their latest match, losing by a massive 10 wickets.
The UAE’s dominant performance was evident from the outset, as they won the toss and opted to bowl first, restricting Uganda to a paltry 75/8 in 20 overs.

The Ugandan innings was marked by poor shot selection and technique, with several dismissals coming from balls that slipped between bat and pad.
Vaishnave Mahesh led the charge for UAE, claiming 3/21 in 4 overs, while Michelle Botha and Heena Hotchandani also chipped in with two wickets each.
Uganda’s top scorer was Janet Mbabazi, who managed 16 runs, while Kevin Awino contributed 13 not out.

In response, UAE’s openers were ruthless, chasing down the target in just 8.2 overs without losing a wicket.
Esha Oza led the charge with an unbeaten 48, while Theertha Satish added a fluent 22.
“We did not show commitment and energy,” said Victoria Pearls head coach Deus Muhumuza, reflecting on the defeat.
“As a team, we played very, very poor cricket—both batters and bowlers. Batters gave away easy wickets, and this was a reality check; you sleep and you get hit hard.”

Muhumuza added, “UAE showed commitment, they bowled well, fielded well, played free cricket—and that is what is required at this level.
This loss affects our momentum and ranking, so we have to take the upcoming games seriously.”
Uganda will look to regroup quickly as they face hosts Thailand tomorrow morning at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground in Bangkok.
