Uganda’s She Cranes storm into Africa Netball Championship final
In a dominant display, Uganda’s national netball team, the She Cranes, silenced a partisan home crowd with a resounding 46-33 victory over hosts Malawi in the second semi-final of the 2025 Africa Netball Championship in Lilongwe.
This commanding performance has secured Uganda’s place in Sunday’s final, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown against continental powerhouse South Africa.
From the opening whistle, the She Cranes set the tone, showcasing composure and tactical discipline to take the first quarter 12-7.
They maintained their intensity throughout, stretching their advantage to nine goals by halftime and dominating the third quarter 11-7.
Malawi’s shooting pair struggled under pressure, and Uganda punished every error, with Shadia Nassanga leading the scoring charge.
The technical bench’s decision to stick with the starting seven proved inspired, with Margaret Baagala, Lillian Achola, and Christine Nakitto leading the charge.
Uganda’s rhythm was undisturbed even after introducing fresh hands, comfortably closing out the match 46-33.
This victory marks Uganda’s second consecutive win over Malawi in 2025, following a 50-45 win in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup bronze medal playoff in February.
With this triumph, the She Cranes turn their attention to a blockbuster final against South Africa, who cruised past Zimbabwe 84-32 in the first semi-final.
The stage is set for an electrifying clash, as Uganda seeks to claim continental glory against Africa’s netball giants.
