Uganda’s National Woodball team squad for World Cup unveiled, president’s Cup climaxes
Uganda’s National Woodball team to compete at the forthcoming World Cup has been officially unveiled.
The squad was unveiled on Sunday, the 21st July 2024 during climax of the President’s Cup at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
This was the 7th edition of the president’s Woodball Cup championship, a tournament that brought together a record attendance.
The championship was used to officially unveil the national Woodball team to ahead of the Woodball World Cup later this year in Shaoxing China.
The team of 18 players is composed of nine ladies and nine men. It will be tutored by George Isabirye.
The team includes Delick Ankunda, Thomas Kedi, Tonny Ssekyeene, Joyce Nalubega, Mirembe Sanyu, Joan Mukova, Alverah Mukamarinda and Precious Namubiru.
The team also has players like Jeremiah Tumuhimbise, Praise Ahurira, Suzan Atwine and Shanita Heri.
The youth team is dominated by players from Shekinah Glory international school of Mbale.
The last time Uganda featured at the World Woodball Pinnacle event, the women finished second.
Meanwhile, the President’s Cup attracted more than 20 teams, Prisons and Ministry of public service clubs emerged triumphant in the men and women respectively.
Mpooma School won the women youth event while Luzira SS won among the boys.
Among the individuals, Thomas Kedi,Michael Makoha,Male Hassan,Shafik Walugembe,Babirye Nalwoga Noeline,Birungi Christine Namale and Nakendo Rayan received accolades and cash prizes.
The occasion was graced by national council of sports assistant general secretary David Katende.
