Uganda’s National Basketball League poised for thrill-filled 2026 season

The 2026 National Basketball League (NBL) season is set to tip off tomorrow, February 6, at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, promising a dramatic start to the campaign.

Last year’s surprises are still fresh in mind, with Namuwongo Blazers claiming their first-ever men’s title and JKL Lady Dolphins defending their women’s crown.

“The season tips off tomorrow, 6th February, at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with title sponsors,” said League Managers Committee chairman Fredricks Owora.

The league will be played across multiple venues, including YMCA, Abja Park Naalya, and UCU Mukono, to bring the game closer to fans.

Ticket prices are set at 10,000 shillings, with 30 limited VIP seats available at 30,000 shillings.

Off the court, the league has taken a significant step towards professionalism, with FUBA Basketball League Limited registered as a company to manage operations and finances.

“This will help us professionalise the game. FUBA remains the governing body, but all operational and financial matters will now be handled by the company,” Owora explained.

The 2026 season features four new teams, including Pearl Queens and Victoria She Crocs in the women’s league, and UMU Flames and UPDF Tomahawks in the men’s division.

The opening night promises a thrilling double-header, with JT Jaguars facing Pearl Queens at 7:00 pm, followed by City Oilers taking on reigning champions Namuwongo Blazers at 9:00 pm.
