Uganda’s Girls basketball powerhouses St. Noa and Kitende reach FEASSA final

Despite facing challenging conditions, including poor umpiring and hostile crowds, two Ugandan basketball giants, St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana and St. Mary’s Kitende, have defied the odds to reach the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Associations (FEASSA) Games 5X5 girls’ basketball final.

Defendingchampions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana labored past Butere in a 62-53 semi-final win, despite being subjected to questionable umpiring.

St. Noa dominated both halves, registering 37-24 and 62-53 scores at the break and full time, respectively.

In the other semi-final, St. Mary’s Kitende squeezed past Rwanda’s ESB Kamonyi with a 68-54 victory, also playing under the same challenging conditions.

Both teams have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning all their group games to advance to the semi-finals as leaders.

The final promises to be an exciting encounter, as it will be a repeat of the famous Wakiso District and National championship final, where St. Noa emerged victorious, beating Kitende 67-49 and 50-36, respectively.

The two sides will face off on Friday, August 22nd, at Police Canteen Courts in Kakamega, Kenya.

Before the final, Kenya’s national champions Butere will lock horns with Rwanda’s ESB Kamonyi in the third-place classification tie.

St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana are the defending champions, having won the title by defeating Rwanda’s GS Marie Rennie 83-48 in last year’s final at Amus College School in Bukedea.

With their strong performance, St. Noa is looking to retain their title, while St. Mary’s Kitende is eager to claim the championship they last won in 2023 FEASSA edition of Huye, Rwanda.
