Uganda’s Bombers flagged off to Nairobi for Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships
The Uganda Boxing Team, affectionately known as the Bombers, has been officially flagged off to compete in the prestigious Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships.
The team, comprising 16 elite boxers, was ceremoniously handed over the national flag at an event held at the Hockey grounds in Lugogo.
Uganda Boxing Federation President, Moses Muhangi, expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “We believe our coaches have done their best. We have to focus on what we have, and we are coming for gold.”
The team is led by experienced head coach Lawrence Kalyango and features a mix of seasoned campaigners and youthful, energetic boxers.
However, Muhangi also voiced concerns regarding the team’s preparation, citing inadequate funding from the National Council of Sports.
Despite this, the team is determined to make a mark in the championships, which promises to be a fiercely competitive event featuring top boxing talent from across the region.
Championships will take place at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani, in Kenya from October 16th to 24th, 2025.
The team includes notable boxers such as Farahat Manirola, Kato Kazibwe Ahmed, Matovu Livingstone, and Murungi Kasim, who will be vying for top honors in their respective weight categories.
The Bombers are set to face stiff competition from 12 countries including Dr. Congo, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Somalia, Central African Republic, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Congo, and Zimbabwe, Gabon and Uganda.
With the team’s sights set on gold, Uganda awaits their performance with bated breath.
