Uganda’s Aziz Ssempijja, Kagimu, Dawson Ssenabulya return home after Nairobi Race glory
A team of 100 cyclists sponsored by Jubilee Insurance company that were competing at the Grand Nairobi Race in Kenya have safely returned home.
Two Uganda cyclists Aziz Ssempijja and Charles Kagimu defied all odds to win the Grand Nairobi Race on Sunday the 29th September in Nairobi, Kenya.
Doubling as captain and assistant coach player, Kawempe Cycling Club’s Aziz Ssempijja won a Gold medal for Uganda in the Black Mamba category at the concluded Grand Nairobi Race.
“It was a good race and I have emerged the champion for Black Mamba category.
This is an inspiration for me and team mates and it’s hard work that has paid off”. Kawempe Cycling Club captain Aziz Ssempijja.
In the same category, Dawson Ssenabulya won a silver medal after finishing second behind winner Aziz Ssempijja.
Charles Kagimu who is part of the Ineos training camp in Kenya won the Elite category to grab Uganda’s second gold medal at the championship.
The three were part of team Uganda’s 100 cyclists sponsored by Jubilee Insurance company who were flagged off on Friday the 27th September 2024 at Sanyuka Restaurant in Mengo, Kampala.
Jubilee Insurance company sponsored team Uganda with a tune of UGX. 30,000,000 to participate at this year’s edition.
After the Grand Nairobi Race, the contingent will prepare for the forthcoming Masaza race in Masaka early next month.
The Masaza race will be a preparation platform for the Continental race Championship.
After being shifted from Ethiopia, the Continental race shall be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 9th to 13th October 2024.
