Ugandan football poised for transformation with new coaching standards

The Uganda Premier League (UPL) is set to undergo a significant transformation with the introduction of new coaching standards.

Commencing with the 2025/2026 football season, only coaches possessing a CAF A License will be eligible to manage teams in the league.

This directive aims to professionalize football in Uganda, ensuring top-tier teams are led by highly qualified tacticians.

To prepare for this transition, 24 coaches recently completed the CAF A Coaching Diploma Course at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The six-month program, the first of its kind under the new CAF coaching convention, comprised 240 hours of rigorous training.

The comprehensive curriculum covered theory of coaching, match analysis, leadership, sports science, nutrition, and media relations.

The successful completion of the course marks a significant milestone in the Federation of Uganda Football Associations’ (FUFA) ongoing capacity-building efforts.

FUFA Deputy CEO-Services Humphrey Mandu emphasized the critical role these coaches will play in shaping the future of Ugandan football.

The certified coaches, led by class captain Badru Kaddu of Express, expressed gratitude to FUFA and its president, Hon. Moses Magogo Hassim, for bringing high-level coaching courses back to Uganda.

With their newfound knowledge, the coaches are poised to uplift the standards of football in the country.

Lead instructor Francis Kimanzi challenged the graduates to remain relevant, expand on their knowledge, and lead by example.

As Ugandan football prepares to align with continental coaching standards, this cohort of CAF A-licensed coaches is set to make a transformative impact on the sport.
