In a remarkable turn of events, Arthur Kaluma, a talented player with the Uganda Basketball National Team, the Silverbacks, has reportedly joined the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Dan Woike, Kaluma has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the 17-time champions and is expected to appear for them in the summer league.

Understanding the Exhibit 10 Contract

For those unfamiliar with the NBA’s contract structure, an Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that is not guaranteed but can include an optional bonus of up to $75,000.

This bonus is rewarded if a player, after being waived, spends at least 60 days with a team’s G League affiliate.

The purpose of this contract is to allow teams to bring in players to compete in the Summer League for a spot on an NBA team or its G League affiliate.

Kaluma’s Opportunity

Kaluma will be competing in the NBA summer league, where he will hope to impress and secure a deal.

While playing in the summer league doesn’t guarantee a contract, many players have managed to make it through.

Kaluma’s brother, Adam Seiko, had a run with the Golden State Warriors in the Summer of 2023, playing for them in the California Classic and the Las Vegas Summer League.

Kaluma’s Basketball Background

Arthur Kaluma previously played for the University of Texas Longhorns, where he averaged 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in his final year.

He was also instrumental in helping Uganda finish 6th in the 2021 Afrobasket, averaging 13.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

Kaluma is expected to suit up for the Silverbacks in the upcoming FIBA Afrobasket in Angola.

What’s Next?

If Kaluma makes it to the NBA, he will be a source of pride for the people back home.

With his talent and dedication, he has an opportunity of a lifetime to showcase his skills and make a name for himself in the basketball world.

The summer league will be a crucial platform for Kaluma to demonstrate his abilities and potentially secure a spot on the Lakers’ roster.
