Uganda’s parliamentarians put on a stellar performance at the 15th East Africa Community Inter Parliamentary games, concluded on Tuesday, December 16, at the Parliament of Uganda.

The host nation dominated the competition, scooping 15 gold medals in both team and individual events, and finishing with a total of 30 medals, including gold, silver, and bronze.

The Uganda team also bagged several accolades, including the Golden Boot in football and the best shooter (Sarah Kayagi) in Netball.

Kenya came second, with 11 gold medals, while Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Tanzania also participated, although the latter did not win any medals.

The award ceremony, which doubled as the end-of-year party, was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Hon. Thomas Tayebwa who respresented the Speaker, as well as Speakers or Deputy Speakers and Honorable Members from all East African national assemblies.

Uganda’s medal tally was impressive, with gold medals in darts (women and men), basketball (women and men), volleyball (women), golf (women), athletics (women), netball, and football.

Kenya dominated the silver and bronze medal race, with notable performances in golf (men), athletics (men), and volleyball (men).

The event showcased the sporting prowess of parliamentarians from the East African region, with Uganda emerging as the clear winner.

The country’s success is a testament to its commitment to sports development and the promotion of regional hall sports.
