Two St. Noa players part of Gazelles unveil 15-player squad for Women’s Afrobasket Zone V qualifiers

Two St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana have been summoned to the women’s senior National Basketball team, the Gazelles to prepare for the forthcoming Women’s Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.

The two are Maxine Modeste Anyango are Zoe Atek.

The team will be under Coach Nicholas Natuhereza assisted by Julius Lutwama, while former Silverbacks star Ben Komakech will serve as the Video Analyst

The Women’s Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers will be in Cairo, Egypt, in the first week of February.

The team has announced a 15-player squad, from which the final 12 will be selected.

The squad boasts a mix of experienced players and young talents, including multiple former U18 stars.

Modesta Anyango, who was the MVP at the U18 Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers and represented Uganda at Basketball Without Borders, is considered a future star of women’s basketball in Uganda.

Other notable young players include Zoe Atek, Sarah Namale, and Shillah Lamunu, who were part of the U16 Championship team in 2021 and the U18 Championship team in 2022.

Shillah made her senior team debut in 2023 during the Women’s Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers at Lugogo.

Experienced players like Agatha Kamwada, Mellisa Akullu, and Captain Hope Akello will also be part of the team.

However, regular team members Lydia Babirye, Abby Priscilla, and Janon Otto have not been included in this squad.
