Tough Start for Kitende in CAF Africa Schools Football Championship

St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende, representing Uganda in the 2025 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship, suffered a 2-0 defeat to debutants and host nation Ghana in their opening match.

John Andoh scored twice for Ghana, netting in the 3rd minute and again midway through the second half.

Kitende will now focus on securing maximum points in their remaining group A matches against South Africa and Algeria.

Both upcoming matches are crucial, and Kitende will need to win them to have a chance at advancing to the semi-finals.

The day one results also saw Tanzania draw 1-1 with Senegal, while South Africa dominated Algeria with a 2-0 victory.

On day two, Kitende will face Algeria in the morning and South Africa in the evening.

Other matches include Tanzania vs Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal vs DR Congo, Ghana vs South Africa, Tanzania vs DR Congo, and Ghana vs Algeria.

The group stage matches will conclude on day two, and the top two teams in each group will progress to the semi-finals.

Kitende’s path to the next stage now depends on their performance in the remaining matches.

The winners of the Boys’ competition will receive USD 300, 000 prize money, with the runners-up receiving USD 200 000 and bronze medallists USD 150 000 to be utilised for development projects within schools.
