Sylvia Kabene shines as St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana Crowned Champions

In a thrilling conclusion to the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Wakiso Zone Girls football tournament, St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana successfully defended their title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the final.
The match, played on a rain-soaked evening at the historic Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, drew a record-breaking crowd, underscoring the growing popularity of the tournament.
Sylvia Kabene, St. Noa’s pacey forward, proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the decisive goal in the 40th minute.
This victory marked St. Noa’s eighth Wakiso District trophy since the school introduced football in 2015, solidifying their dominance in the region.
St. Noa’s journey to the title was marked by impressive performances. In the semifinals, they thrashed Tagy High School 3-0, with Brenda Nassaka, Patricia Nayiga, and Esther Babirye scoring crucial goals. Meanwhile, their opponents in the final, Rines SS, edged out Aidan College 1-0 in the other semifinal.
Rines SS, under the guidance of coach Ismail Mukiibi, had demonstrated their strength earlier in the tournament, thrashing Fairway 4-0 in the quarterfinals and winning 6-0 over Mary’s Mount SS in the round of 16.
St. Noa, on the other hand, had dominated Standard High School-Zzana 6-0 in the quarterfinals and eased past MT. Venon 4-0 in the round of 16.
The victory secures St. Noa’s spot at the National Ball Games, where they will join forces with five other teams from Wakiso District, including Rines SS, Aidan College, Tagy High School, Standard High School-Zzana, and London College Nansana.
The National Ball Games are set to take place from April 4th to 13th in Bukedea.
St. Noa’s skipper and custodian Lillian Nakirya was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper while Rines’ magical Halimah Mupyanga was the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
