
Star-studded lineup set to shine at 32nd National Cross Country Championships in Mbale
Uganda’s athletic calendar is heating up as the country prepares to host the 32nd National Cross Country Championships on November 15 at Mbale Golf Course.
The event is set to feature an impressive lineup of long-distance runners, including reigning world 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei and World Cross Country titleholder Jacob Kiplimo, who recently triumphed at the Chicago Marathon.

According to Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) President Dominic Otucet, the championship will be a crucial qualifier for the 46th World Athletics Cross Country Championships, scheduled for January 10, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida.
As such, athletes will be vying for a spot on the national team, making the Mbale meet a pivotal moment in their careers.
The competition will feature various categories, including 10km races for senior men and women, 8km for juniors, 4km mixed relays, and 2km events for senior and masters athletes aged 35 and above.

Following the 32nd National Cross Country Championships in Mbale, the Uganda Athletics Federation will announce a 26-member squad to represent the nation at the 46th World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida.
The team will comprise six senior men and women, five junior men and women, and a mixed relay team of four athletes, accompanied by four officials.
This prestigious event, scheduled for January 10, 2026, will showcase Uganda’s finest long-distance runners, including reigning champions Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei, as they vie for top honors against the world’s best.
