St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana successfully defends Aggrey Zone title

In a thrilling final encounter played on the soggy surface of Lufuka Playground, St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana successfully defended their Aggrey Zone girls’ football title with a hard-fought 2-1 win against neighbors Standard High School-Zzana (STAHIZA).

The match, played in front of thousands of spectators, was a closely contested affair that saw St. Noa labour from a goal down to emerge victorious.

STAHIZA took the lead in the first half through Lillian Osianzo’s goal, but St. Noa’s goals poacher Sylvia Kabene equalized five minutes from the end of the game, cancelling out the deficit.

The match seemed destined for extra time, but Sumayiah Nalumu sealed the win for St. Noa in the last minute of the four added minutes, putting the entire STAHIZA defence on the back foot to strike into an empty net.

This victory marks St. Noa’s 9th straight trophy, having won their first in 2015.

The team dominated the tournament, leading Group A, while STAHIZA finished second in Group B behind St. Noa Junior side, who entered the tournament as a guest side.

Sylvia Kabene’s impressive performance earned her the top goal scorer award with 10 goals.

The win ensures that St. Noa, along with Standard High School-Zzana, Aidan College, and Aggrey Memorial, will represent Aggrey Zone in the district qualifiers.

 

This achievement is a testament to St. Noa’s consistency and dominance in the Aggrey Zone girls’ football competition.
