St. Mary’s Kitende, Kawempe Muslim are USSSA 2022 Elite champions
St. Mary’s Kitende swept trophies at the concluded Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Elite championship.
The three day championship that kicked off last Friday, 25th February to Sunday 27th at St. Mary’s Kitende, St. Mary’s College Kisubi and Standard High School-Zana.
At the climax of the championship, St Mary’s Kitende defended the boys football title after a 1-1 stalemate in the closing tie of a round robin tourney against Royal Giant Mityana.
The champions scored through Faisal Tumwine (St. Mary’s Kitende) and Issa Bugembe if Royal Giant were on target in the closing fixture.
The National and East African champions St. Mary’s Kitende also dethroned St. Noa Girls Secondary Schools-Zana who didn’t take part in this year’s edition to win both Netball as well as girls basketball.
National and East African girls football champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School are the new USSSA Elite champions after finishing at the top of the six teams log with 10 points.
Kawempe’s triumph was much highlighted by a 6-1 white to counterparts God Cares. Halima Kampi scored four goals in the fixture.
Girls football, Netball, basketball and Volleyball were played in Robin format where the highest points ranked teams were crowned champions.
The USSSA Elite championship is a squad fine tuning tournament where schools test and shape squads ahead of Copa Coca-Cola, USSSA Fresh Diary Games and Ball Games I and FEASSSA Games.
Gulu City will host tgeis year’s Fresh Diary games while Arua City is host to Copa Coca-Cola.
Tanzania could be a potential host for FEASSSA Games if Kakamega, Kenya drops the chance.
