St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School-Kitende has emerged victorious in the 2025 Wakiso District USSSA National Ball Games II Netball championship, defying odds and overcoming obstacles to claim the top spot.

In a thrilling final held this evening at Gayaza Grounds in Wampeewo Zone, Kitende edged out Buddo SS in a closely contested match, winning 18-17.

A Nail-Biting Finish

The final duel was played in front of a packed crowd, with Kitende taking an early lead in the first stanza, winning 8-7.

The second half was just as intense, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination.

Buddo SS staged a late comeback, leveling the score 17-17 with just one minute left to play.

However, their goal shooter, Hassan Pony, missed three opportunities to take the lead, hitting the ring with just 35 seconds remaining.

Kitende Seals the Win

Seizing the moment, Kitende quickly counter-attacked and converted a crucial goal through Bilayh Nabbowa, taking a one-goal advantage and winning the epic final 18-17.

This victory marks a title defence and a testament to Kitende’s skill, strategy, and perseverance.

Road to the Final

Kitende’s journey to the final was marked by impressive performances, eliminating Madinah Islamic 24-17 in the quarter-finals and beating Kawanda SS 27-17 in the semi-finals.

Buddo SS, on the other hand, defeated Greenlight Islamic SS – Nansana in the quarter-finals and edged out St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana 19-18 in the semi-final.

Qualification for Nationals

Nine teams have qualified to represent Wakiso District at the forthcoming National Ball Games II Netball championship in Tororo this July.

They include: St. Mary’s Kitende, Buddo SS, St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana, Kawanda SS, Greenlight, Kajjansi Progressive, Madinah Islamic, Boston High School and Kisozi High School.

Quarter-finals:

– St Noa 18-14 Kajansi Progressive

– St Mary’s Kitende 24-17 Madinah Islamic

– Buddo SS 24-18 Green Light

– Kawanda SS 19-14 Boston High School

Semi-finals:

– St. Mary’s Kitende 27-17 Kawanda SS

– Buddo SS 19-18 St. Noa Girls

Final:

– St. Mary’s Kitende 18-17 Buddo SS
