The Uganda national netball team, the She Cranes, has been officially flagged off for the 2025 Celtic Cup, marking the country’s first-ever appearance in the tournament.

The ceremony took place on Friday afternoon at Copper Chimney in Lugogo, drawing together officials from the National Council of Sports (NCS) and Netball Uganda (NU).

“We’re grateful to the Government of Uganda because they have been able to facilitate this team to Scotland.

The team has been flagged by the National Council of Sports and is ready to represent the nation,” said NU president Jocelyn Ucanda, expressing deep appreciation for the government’s support.

Team captain Racheal Nanyonga echoed Ucanda’s confidence, stating that the She Cranes are heading to Glasgow with a single mission, victory. “Our aim is to go and win all the matches in Scotland, and we’re well set for the tournament,” Nanyonga declared.

The 14-player squad is led by Nanyonga and includes talented players such as Mary Nuba, Margaret Baagala, Achola Lillian and Faridah Kadondi.

The team will face a tough challenge in the round-robin format, taking on Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Namibia at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

Chebet Milton, NCS Assistant General Secretary, presided over the flag-off ceremony, which was attended by NU officials, including Vice President Administration William Bwambale and General Secretary Aminah Mande.
