Saidi Muthir strikes as Kumi University edges Makerere in thrilling encounter
Kumi University secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Makerere University in a Pepsi University Football League match played on Thursday at the Kumi grounds.
Saidi Muthir’s decisive header in the 48th minute proved to be the winner, coming off a well-curled corner from Mohammed Jumbe.
Muthir rose highest to head home the corner kick, capitalizing on Kumi’s renewed energy after the break.
The hosts had piled pressure on Makerere, and their efforts paid off with the crucial goal.
Makerere struggled to respond, and despite a late penalty appeal, the referee waved play on.
The win lifted Kumi University to three points in Group E, level with Ndejje University.
The group remains tightly contested, with Ndejje University, newcomers King Ceasar University, IUIU, UCU, Kumi University, and Makerere University all vying for a spot.
The action continues on Friday as Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosts King Censor University in Mbale.
The league is heating up, and the competition is fierce.
Kumi University’s victory marks their second consecutive home win over Makerere, following an identical 1-0 result last season.
