Former Uganda Cranes winger Obadiah Ssemakula, affectionately known as “Musanvu We’ggwanga,” has been confirmed dead.

The news of his passing broke on Saturday morning, August 24th, 2025.

Ssemakula’s name is etched in the annals of Ugandan football history as one of the greatest right-wingers the country has ever produced.

His exceptional crossing ability and unwavering commitment to the game made him a household name.

During his playing days, Ssemakula was an integral part of the defunct Coffee Football Club, leading the team to two Uganda Cup victories in 1970 and 1981.

Ssemakula’s prowess on the pitch earned him a spot in the Uganda Cranes national team.

His nickname “Musanvu We’ggwanga,” which translates to “number seven of the nation,” reflects his iconic status in Ugandan football.

He was renowned for his formidable skills and was arguably the best crosser of the ball in Ugandan football.
