Uganda’s Rebecca Chelangat has etched her name in the record books with a stunning gold medal performance in the women’s 10,000m final at the ongoing 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Chelangat, 22, crossed the finish line in a time of 32:11:42, edging out Qatar’s Violah Motosio (32:13:59) in a nail-biting finish.

“I thank my training colleagues. Without them, I would not have done this,” Chelangat humbly acknowledged in an interview with.

Her remarkable achievement is a testament to her tireless efforts and dedication to her craft.

2025 has been a remarkable year for Chelangat, with notable victories at the Seville Marathon in Spain, the Gouden Spike in Leiden, and the Uganda national championships.

This gold medal is Uganda’s third at the 2025 Games and seventh overall.

In other Ugandan performances, Annet Chemengich Chelangat finished fourth in the women’s 10,000m with a time of 32:51:33, while Leonard Chemutai narrowly missed a medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, finishing fourth.

Javelin thrower Josephine Joyce Lalam’s campaign was cut short due to a knee injury.

The action continues on Tuesday with Abel Chebet competing in the men’s 10,000m finals, alongside several middle-distance races.

Wrestling and Para Powerlifting events are also scheduled for the day, featuring Denis Mbaziira and coach Kenneth Sekilanda.
