Uganda’s top table tennis players are set for a defining test as the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) stages high-stakes national trials to select the team for the upcoming ITTF-Africa East Regional Championships in Port Sudan.
Beyond regional representation, the trials carry even greater significance, with successful players positioning themselves for potential selection to Uganda’s squad for the African Senior Championships later this year.
The selection event will unfold at the National Training Center, Kololo S.S.S, across two weekends—April 11–12 and April 18–19—with matches running daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
A round-robin format, played over best-of-five games, has been adopted to ensure fairness and rigor, demanding consistency and endurance from every participant.
In the men’s category, the competition is expected to be fiercely contested, led by top-ranked names such as Joseph Sebatindira, Nsereko Sharif, and Joshua Magaya. The field is further strengthened by formidable contenders including Phillip Napokooli, Jonathan Senyonga, and Imran Luwooza, among others.
Notably, the inclusion of all players tied at rank 15 broadens the pool, adding further depth and unpredictability to the contest.
The women’s division promises equally compelling battles. Nakawala Jemimah and Nasirumbi Prossy Patra headline a talented lineup that features strong challengers like Nakhumitsa Rita, Anyango Patience, and Nangonzi Parvin Judith.
Emerging prospects such as Brenda Namukose and Nekesa Ivy will also be eager to seize the spotlight and stake their claim for national selection.
The trials will draw exclusively from the February 2026 national rankings, ensuring that only the country’s most in-form athletes compete for the coveted slots on the national team.
