Addressing the athletes, University proprietor and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Badru Ddungu Kateregga, emphasized the importance of discipline, courage, and integrity, values that Kampala University has upheld since 1999.

“Be disciplined even if you are cheated, argue reasonably, push beyond your limits. Kampala University is known for victories. Play with courage and integrity because that is ours,” he said.

Kateregga also jokingly cautioned AUUS Vice President and Kampala University Sports Tutor, Martha Soigi, against any form of bias during the competition.

“As the Vice President of AUUS, try your best not to collaborate with others to cheat Kampala University,” he remarked, drawing laughter from the audience.

The Vice Chancellor also called on AUUS to review participation fees, citing the high costs that limit the number of universities taking part in the games.

“There are over 70 universities, but only 24 managed to participate.

I have spent over Shs180 million on this team. That money could build classrooms or buy computers, but I chose to invest in sports. AUUS should charge reasonable fees so more universities can compete,” he noted.

Martha Soigi, speaking on behalf of the technical team, assured that the athletes are well prepared and ready to compete.

The contingent will depart for UCU on Friday, marking the beginning of Kampala University’s 19th participation in the AUUS Games.
