Defending champions NIC Netball Club launched their Netball Uganda National Rally campaign with a hard-fought 31–28 victory over Police in an electrifying encounter at Kaddugala Secondary School in Masaka.
Played before a vibrant and sizeable crowd, the contest lived up to expectations, with NIC showing composure in the closing stages to seal a narrow win and set the tone for their title defence.
The two-day tournament, which got underway on Friday, has attracted five competitive sides—NIC, KCCA, Police, UPDF, and Weyonje—all battling in a round-robin format set to climax on Sunday.
Earlier on Friday, Weyonje secured a 24–19 win over UPDF, while NIC’s triumph over Police capped an entertaining opening day.
The standout clash of the tournament is expected to be the highly anticipated showdown between reigning league champions KCCA and Uganda’s most decorated netball club, NIC, slated for Saturday evening.
The championship officially opened on Friday, with Major Fred Malengano presiding over the ceremony, alongside members of the Netball Uganda Executive Committee led by First Vice President William Bwambale.
With momentum building and rivalries intensifying, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion as teams vie for supremacy in Masaka.
