After two consecutive failed attempts, the Moil-sponsored crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba finally conquered the WRC Safari Rally, crossing the finish line in their Ford Fiesta R5 ‘NEMO’.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for the duo, who made their WRC Safari Rally debut in 2021.

Nasser and Katumba’s determination paid off as they skillfully navigated the treacherous Safari carnage route on Saturday, posting impressive times in the six-stage run.

Their strategic driving kept them among the top Africa Rally Championship contenders.

The unforgiving Safari Rally took its toll on several crews, with over 18 teams returning to action on Sunday under super rally rules.

Defending African Rally Champion Karan Patel was among the casualties, forced to retire due to engine failure.

However, Nasser and Katumba persevered, ultimately achieving their goal of breaking the WRC Safari Rally jinx.

“We definitely desired a finish at the Safari, to break the jinx, and get decent African Rally Championship points,” Nasser exclaimed.

“The car was still responding well, and yes, here we are now.”

With this historic finish, Nasser now stands third on the 2025 FIA African Rally Championship scoreboard with 15 points.

The duo’s success sets them up for a strong performance in the upcoming Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, scheduled to take place in May 2025.
