Mawokota strengthens squad with signing of Owen Mukisa ahead of Airtel Masaza Cup quarter-finals
Three-time Airtel Masaza Cup winners Mawokota have bolstered their team with the signing of talented left-foot attacking midfielder Owen Mukisa from Buddo Secondary School.
Mukisa, the 2025 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) U20 Boy’s Football Most Valuable Player, joins Mawokota as they prepare to face off against two-time champions Ssingo in the quarterfinals.
Mukisa’s impressive skills were showcased in Buddo Secondary School’s victory in the USSSA U20 Boy’s Football championship, where they clinched their third title in Ngora District.
Mawokota’s new head coach, Hussein Kato, who replaced David Katono Mutono, is tasked with bringing home the Airtel Masaza Cup trophy after years of disappointment.
The quarter-final matchup between Mawokota and Ssingo is generating significant interest, with both teams boasting a rich history in the competition.
Mawokota aims to claim their fourth title, having previously won in 2005, 2007, and 2013, while Ssingo seeks to add to their 2015 and 2018 championships.
Mukisa’s addition to Mawokota’s squad could prove to be a game-changer as the team looks to overcome Ssingo and progress to the semifinals.
With the first leg scheduled for September 27, 2025, and the return leg on October 4, 2025, the stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
