Manirola honoured at luncheon following historic Russia victory

Ugandan professional boxer Farahat Manirola was the centre of attention at a special luncheon hosted by the Uganda Boxing Federation Professional Licensing Commission upon his return from a landmark triumph in Russia.

Held at Ibamba Restaurant in Kamwokya, the gathering served as both a celebration and recognition of Manirola’s breakthrough achievement on foreign soil.

The event was attended by key stakeholders in his journey, including Commission Secretary General Phillip Munaabi, his coach Don Rama, manager Henry Damulira, and Lukanga Boxing Club manager Daniel Musanje.

“This victory belongs to the entire team—it’s a collective effort where everyone behind me played their part to perfection.

I’m grateful to my coach Don Rama, my manager Henry Damulira, and everyone at Lukanga Boxing Club for the unwavering support.

Now my focus shifts fully to the elimination trials as I push for a place at the Commonwealth Games.” – Manirola

The luncheon highlighted the federation’s growing commitment to supporting Ugandan professional boxers competing on the international stage, with Manirola’s success standing as a clear testament to that vision.

Manirola recently made history by becoming the first Ugandan professional boxer to register a victory in a former Soviet Union country, following a composed unanimous decision win over Russia’s Georgii Chelokhsaev in a super lightweight contest.

Facing a vastly experienced opponent on home ground, the Ugandan displayed tactical discipline and resilience to secure the milestone result.

“It was more than just a fight for Farahat—it was a real learning experience of what life at the highest level of professional boxing looks like.

The reception was incredible; he signed over 10,000 autographs before and after the bout, which shows the magnitude of the stage he was on.

As for the fight itself, he executed the plan perfectly—he stayed disciplined, remained determined, and delivered a truly brilliant performance.” – Henry Damulira

Speaking during the luncheon, officials praised Manirola for elevating Uganda’s profile in international boxing and reaffirmed continued support for fighters seeking global opportunities.

“We are immensely proud of Farahat Manirola for flying Uganda’s flag high on the international stage.

His achievement in Russia is a testament to his discipline, resilience, and talent.

As a federation, we remain fully committed to supporting our professional boxers in accessing global platforms and competing at the highest level.”

With the celebrations concluded, Manirola now turns his attention to future assignments, including a crucial elimination bout that could see him represent Uganda at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
