Lukanga Boxing Club, a renowned institution in Ugandan boxing, hosted a grand celebration party at Mirambi Hotel in Najanankumbi on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, to commemorate their outstanding achievements in 2024.

The opulent event, attended by the club’s management, boxers, and esteemed guests, was marked by an impressive display of trophies, medals, and belts.

Sam Lukanga, the club’s proprietor, addressed the gathering, expressing his gratitude to the club’s executive, coaches, and boxers for their exceptional performance. “I want to thank the club executive, coaches, and the boxers for a job well done. 2024 has been a resounding success. We have won almost everything there is to grab,” Lukanga stated.

Lukanga attributed the club’s success to hard work and commitment, emphasizing the importance of discipline in boxing.

He also expressed concern about the involvement of active boxers in violent gangs, stating, “It’s hurting to notice that many active boxers are involved in musicians’ violent gangs that beat and steal people’s property on different gatherings/events. We will soon convene a meeting with other stakeholders to address this issue.”

Despite a decline in the number of belts won in the 2024 Uganda Boxing Champions League season, Lukanga Boxing Club still managed to collect an impressive eight medals, with Solomon Gecko, Ashraf Kibirige, and female champion Nadia emerging victorious in their respective weight categories.

The club’s impressive performance extended to the National Novice Boxing Championship, where they swept five trophies, including the ladies, men elite, youth, juniors, and overall trophies.

They also won four out of five trophies at the National Open championship in Lugogo.

Owen Kibira was named the best boxer of the year and received an accolade at the gala.

Kibira’s impressive performance in the Boxing Champions League season, which included four knockouts, earned him the recognition.

Lukanga Boxing Club, founded in 1992 by Samuel Lukanga, has a rich history of producing renowned champions and continues to dominate the sport. Their 2024 success marks their third consecutive win in the national championship and their 19th record championship in the history of Ugandan boxing.
