Resilience and composure under pressure defined London College Nansana’s triumph as they dethroned Alliance High School to lift the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Nansana Sub-Zone girls’ football title in a thrilling final.
Despite entering the decisive clash as the second-placed side from the preliminary round, London College overturned the odds in a tightly contested encounter that ultimately required penalties to separate the two teams.
Alliance High School, who had topped the round-robin standings with seven points—two ahead of London College—struck first in the final.
Sheenah Nahabwe capitalized on a defensive lapse and poor ball timing to slot home into the lower left corner, leaving London College goalkeeper Peruth Nabirye exposed as Alliance carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
However, London College returned from halftime with renewed intent. Having already shown superior organization, fluid ball movement, and flashes of individual brilliance throughout the contest, they intensified their push for an equalizer.
The turning point arrived late in the second half when London College were awarded a penalty in a dramatic goalkeeper-versus-goalkeeper moment.
Nabirye rose to the occasion, calmly converting from the spot to level matters at 1-1 and force the game into a penalty shootout.
In the tense shootout that followed, both sides displayed nerves of steel across seven attempts each.
London College eventually edged the contest 5-4, sealing a memorable victory.
Alliance High School’s Immaculate Komuhibwe, Irene Namusoke, and Jazirah Ndibalekera missed their attempts, while Sharifah Kabali and Hudah Sabanu were off target for London College.
The tournament, which featured four teams—London College Nansana, Alliance High School, Kasengejje Secondary School, and Marvel Secondary School—was played in a round-robin format.
The top two sides, Alliance and London College, progressed to the final showdown after the preliminary stage.
All four teams will now represent Nansana Sub-Zone at the Wakiso District/Zone championships scheduled to take place from 8th to 14th April in Matugga.
