Defending champions Kibuli Secondary School have launched their title defence in emphatic style at the ongoing Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games, delivering commanding performances in both the boys’ and girls’ table tennis singles categories.

The competition, staged at the library of Mbale Secondary School, witnessed Kibuli stamp early authority, beginning with a clinical 3-0 victory over Mbogo Mixed Secondary School in the girls’ opening fixture on Friday afternoon.

The defending champions displayed composure and technical superiority, setting the tone for their campaign.

In another girls’ contest, Mbogo High School overcame co-hosts Nkoma Secondary School with a hard-fought 3-1 triumph in what proved to be a competitive and closely contested encounter.

However, the tournament experienced an unexpected twist ahead of Day Two, as three teams—Seke Secondary School, Bilal Islamic Secondary School, and Hamdan Islamic Secondary School—withdrew from the competition.

Their sudden pullouts prompted an immediate restructuring of the format.

With only five teams remaining—Kibuli Secondary School, Mbogo Mixed Secondary School, Nkoma Secondary School, Mbogo High School, and Mbogo College School—organisers adopted a round-robin system.

Each team will now face all others, with the overall standings determining the eventual champion.

In the boys’ category, Kibuli Secondary School mirrored the dominance of their girls’ side, securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Mbogo College School to ignite their title defence.

Earlier, Mbogo College School had opened their campaign in impressive fashion, brushing aside Kinaawa High School 3-0. Meanwhile, Mbogo Mixed Secondary School fell 3-1 to hosts Nkoma Secondary School in a tense and competitive tie.

A total of six teams are competing in the boys’ division: Mbogo Mixed Secondary School, Nkoma Secondary School, Mbogo College School, Kinaawa High School, UBUNTU Hill School, and the defending champions Kibuli Secondary School.

Similar to the girls’ category, the boys’ competition will also follow a round-robin format, with the team accumulating the best record crowned champion.

The tournament, which commenced on Friday, 3rd April, is set to reach its climax on Monday, 6th April, as Kibuli Secondary School aim to maintain their dominance and successfully defend both titles.
