The dust has finally settled within the netball fraternity following the long-awaited coronation of the 2025 league champions, bringing closure to months of anticipation.
On the evening of Wednesday, 1st April 2026, the Netball Uganda executive officially crowned Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Netball Club, Kampala University, and Buddo Secondary School as champions of the Women’s Super League, Men’s Super League, and Division II, respectively.
The ceremony, held at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo, was presided over by National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary (Technical), Milton Chebet.
The event marked the formal conclusion of a season whose celebratory climax had been delayed, prolonging the wait for recognition among the victorious sides and their supporters.
KCCA Netball Club’s triumph stood out as the defining highlight of the campaign.
The side edged rivals Prisons Netball Club 44–41 in a thrilling final league fixture played on 29th December 2025, sealing a historic championship.
The victory ended a 42-year title drought, delivering KCCA their first league crown since 1983.
Under the stewardship of head coach Fred Mugerwa and assistant coach Jonathan Ssegujja, KCCA exhibited resilience, tactical discipline, and composure under pressure throughout the season.
They ultimately topped the 13-team standings with 45 points, narrowly ahead of NIC on 44, while Prisons settled for third place with 38 points.
Despite the magnitude of their achievement, official recognition had remained pending until this ceremony, leaving a notable gap between accomplishment and celebration.
Individual excellence was also recognized on the night, with KCCA and She Cranes defender Shaffie Nalwanja named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Women’s Super League.
In the Men’s Super League, Kampala University asserted their dominance by finishing top of the 10-team table with 34 points.
WOB followed in second place with 28 points, while Legacy secured third with 26. Kampala University’s Bosco Yiga was deservedly named the division’s MVP.
Meanwhile, in the Division II category, Buddo Secondary School delivered an unbeaten campaign to clinch the inaugural title, amassing 28 points.
They finished ahead of second-placed Canan High School Wakiso (24 points) and Kajjansi Progressive (20 points), earning promotion to the top tier alongside Canan.
Buddo’s success was further underlined by the outstanding performance of Fortunate Anirwoth Kizito, who was named MVP.
A product of former Netball Uganda president Sarah Babirye Kityo’s street netball initiative in Arua, Anirwoth’s rise epitomizes the impact of grassroots development pathways.
With the 2025 season now formally concluded, attention swiftly shifts to the upcoming campaign, which is expected to get underway in just three weeks’ time—promising yet another chapter of competitive and compelling netball action.
