Kawuma siblings shine at SOM Inter-Project and T.E.C.H For the World Chess Championship

In a stunning display of talent, siblings Patricia Kawuma and Reagan Kawuma dominated the recently concluded SportsOutreachMinistry (SOM) Inter-Project and T.E.C.H For the World annual Chess Championship, winning scholarships and trophies in their respective categories.

Patricia, an 18-year-old Senior Five student at Pride College School Mpigi, emerged as the overall rated champion, securing a full-year scholarship for the third successive time.

Her brother Reagan, a Senior Two student, won the T.E.C.H For the World championship and a four-year full scholarship at Springfield High School, Matugga.

Their step-sister, Caroline Nabirye, also shone, winning a one-term scholarship after scooping a bronze medal in the rated category.

The Kawuma siblings’ success was not limited to the local tournament; Patricia is an Olympiad who featured at the Budapest, Hungary global event in 2024, while Nabirye represented Uganda at the 2023 U16 in Netherlands.

The SOM Inter-Project Championship, which hosted over 400 school children from across Uganda, saw the Kawuma siblings lead the charge, with other winners including Sserubiri Steven, Nabikolo Valisha, and Onyango Daniel.

The tournament, which aims to develop life skills, character, and confidence among children and youth, awarded 7 bursaries, 12 scholarships, 58 medals, and 19 trophies.
