The boys football competition at the 2026 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games burst into life on Friday with a series of compelling fixtures, headlined by emphatic victories for Kawempe Muslim Secondary School and Kakukugulu Memorial Secondary School.

The official opener at Mbale City Stadium saw hosts Nkoma Secondary School held to a goalless draw by Kyadondo Secondary School, setting the tone for a tightly contested opening day.

However, the spotlight quickly shifted to Kawempe Muslim, the Kawempe Division champions, who delivered a flawless start to their campaign.

Playing at Mbale City Stadium, they secured a 2-0 victory over Kinaawa High School in their opening fixture, courtesy of strikes from Ssekabira Isaac and Bukenya Stephen in either half.

Kawempe returned later in the evening with even greater authority, thrashing Busabala Islamic Secondary School 3-0.

Goals from Bukenya Stephen, Ukasha Kimbowa, and Kintu Augustine sealed a comprehensive win, propelling them to the summit of Group D with six points from two matches.

Their campaign continues on Saturday with a fixture against Kigumba Secondary School at St Peter’s Secondary School, before rounding off the group stage against Kasawo Secondary School.

Elsewhere, Kakukugulu Memorial Secondary School registered a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bombo Muslim Secondary School in one of the day’s most gripping encounters at Mbale Secondary School grounds.

Bombo Muslim had taken an early lead through Shafik Karim, but Kakukugulu mounted a spirited comeback.

Supersub Daniel Iglima restored parity in the second half before skipper Assimwe Ronnie struck late to secure victory for the Kampala-based side.

Kakukugulu will now turn their attention to a high-stakes clash against defending champions Masaka Secondary School as they seek to reassert themselves among the competition’s elite.
