
Kampala University Reigns Supreme in AUUS Games Chess Championship
Kampala University has emerged as the overall champion of the 20th AUUS Games Chess Competition, held at Uganda Christian University.
The team delivered a composed and clinical performance, finishing top of the standings with 19½ points, courtesy of four wins and three draws.
Their consistency and tactical discipline throughout the tournament proved too strong for their opponents, as they remained unbeaten throughout the seven-round contest.
Makerere University settled for silver with 17 points, despite showing flashes of brilliance, while Mbarara University claimed bronze with 18½ points.
Kampala International University finished fourth with 16½ points, while hosts Uganda Christian University placed fifth with 14½ points.
Mountain of the Moon University secured sixth place with 12 points, after a respectable outing in a highly competitive field.
The chess competition highlighted the depth of intellectual sport within Ugandan universities, with sharp strategy, mental endurance, and composure under pressure separating champions from contenders.
Kampala University’s title win sets the stage for future editions, where rivals will be eager to dethrone the new kings of campus chess.
