International Friendly: Crested Cranes falls short to Algeria

The Uganda senior women’s football national team, the Crested Cranes, have narrowly lost 2-1 to Algeria in a friendly game.

In the game played at Mostapha Tchacker Stadium in Algeria, Laura Carine Muller and Lea Abadou scored for Algeria, while Joan Nabirye netted Uganda’s consolation.

With a quarter of an hour gone, Algeria took the lead through Laura Carine Muller, and it helped the hosts to take a first-half 1-0 lead.

In the second half, midfielder Joan Nabirye scored the equalizer for Uganda in the 62nd minute, before Lea Abadou restored the lead eight minutes later.

Speaking to the media after the game, Crested Cranes head coach applauded her girls despite losing the game.

“The girls really played well, they followed the instructions and played tactically well, despite the result. We knew we were facing a team with better players and more tactical awareness, but we hope to improve and put up a good fight in the next game.” She said.

The nations will still meet in another friendly game on Saturday, 30 November 2024, at the same stadium in Algeria.
