Record Gomba Ssaza team champions have turned to a familiar son in a calculated bid to reclaim their dominance, confirming Felix Ssekabuuza as head coach for the 2026 Masaza Cup campaign.
The appointment signals more than just a technical reshuffle—it is a strategic homecoming.
Fresh off guiding Buweekula to their maiden Masaza Cup crown in 2025, Ssekabuuza arrives in Gomba with a proven pedigree and a deep-rooted connection to the Ssaza, having been born in the region he now leads.
Gomba’s decision comes at a critical juncture. Despite their rich history—boasting a record five titles (2004, 2009, 2014, 2017, and 2020)—the five-time champions endured a disappointing 2025 season, exiting at the group stage.
The new technical setup is therefore tasked with restoring the team’s competitive edge and reasserting its stature among Buganda’s elite.
Ssekabuuza’s recent resume underscores why he is viewed as the ideal architect for that revival.
Beyond his Masaza triumph with Buweekula, he steered St Julian High School to their maiden national title in 2024, defeating Amus College 3-0 in the final.
His versatility was further demonstrated with non-league side Football Classroom, whom he guided to the Round of 32 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup before a narrow penalty shootout elimination to Onduparaka.
His broader coaching journey includes stints as assistant coach at Ssingo under Shafiq Bisaso, as well as spells with Busiro, reinforcing his deep familiarity with the Masaza ecosystem.
To execute the rebuild, Gomba has assembled a comprehensive and specialized technical unit.
Davis Nnono and Kizito Alex will deputize Ssekabuuza, while Lule Reagan takes charge of goalkeepers.
The backroom also features Ndugga Lawrence as trainer and Ssebweye Alex as performance analyst.
Further structural support includes Nyanja Joseph (statistician) and Amanya Nicholas (kits manager), while the medical department will be overseen by Oscar Mutebire assisted by Ddingiro Julius. Administrative operations will be handled by Kasenge Ivan and his deputy Kagimu Ronnie.
