Greenlight Islamic crowned champions of 5th edition of Inter-Islamic Schools Games 2025 football tournament

The 5th Edition of the Inter-Islamic Schools (IIS) Games 2025 football tournament officially concluded at Madina Islamic Secondary School in Nsangi, Katereke.

In a thrilling final, Greenlight Islamic Secondary School – Nansana emerged victorious over Kampala Islamic Secondary School, winning 1-0.

Explosive Final

The winning goal was scored by Captain AbudRazak Iradukunda, who netted a stunning free kick in the first half.

This goal proved to be the decisive factor, as Greenlight Islamic held on to their lead to claim the championship title.

Road to the Final

Greenlight Islamic’s journey to the final was marked by impressive performances.

In the semi-finals, they squeezed past TopTimes in a 1-0 duel, with forward Ian Tabingwa scoring the only goal.

Earlier, they had eliminated Buziga Islamic 3-0 in the quarter-finals, with Tony Buyuungo, Elvis Kimuli, and Captain AbudRazak Iradukunda scoring the goals.

Kampala Islamic’s Run

Kampala Islamic, on the other hand, had a remarkable run in the tournament.

They eliminated last year’s champions and hosts Madina Islamic in a 2-1 intense quarter-final tie, with forward Allan Kisiimo scoring a brace.

In the semi-finals, they eliminated Tawheed 2-0, with Umar Kagga and Devis Wabwire scoring the goals.

Tournament Overview

The two-day tournament, which started on Saturday, June 21st, and concluded on Sunday, June 22nd, featured 16 teams divided into four groups.

The tournament was held at Madina Islamic Grounds in Nsangi, Katereke. Buziga Islamic Institute in Kampala was declared as next year’s host.

Tournament History

The Inter-Islamic Schools Games have a rich history, dating back to the first edition in 2019, which was unfortunately halted due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The games resumed in 2022 with the second edition, and this year marks the 5th Edition.

Besides sports, the tournament also featured indoor activities, including a Quran recitation competition won by Bilal Islamic Bwaise, a Public speech competition won by TopTimes High School, and a Poetry competition won by hosts Madina Islamic.
