Gombe SS retain UMEA crown in commanding fashion as 2026 Solidarity Games conclude in Mbale

The 2026 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games reached a successful and vibrant climax in Mbale City, with Gombe Secondary School once again asserting their supremacy through a landmark all-round performance.

Gombe SS successfully defended the overall championship, amassing an impressive tally of five gold medals and one silver to retain their crown.

Their gold medal haul came from dominant displays in Scrabble (boys and girls), Chess (girls), and Handball (boys and girls), while they added a silver medal in Chess (boys) to cap off a remarkable campaign.

Kibuli Secondary School finished as the immediate runners-up, collecting four gold medals and two bronze.

Their gold medals were secured in Badminton (boys), Table Tennis (boys and girls), and Chess (boys).

Kibuli also claimed bronze medals in Handball (girls) and Chess (girls), underlining their consistency across disciplines.

In football, Kyaddondo Secondary School emerged as champions in the boys’ category after edging Masaka Secondary School 1–0 in a closely fought final.

Meanwhile, Kawempe Muslim Secondary School extended their dominance in girls’ football, clinching a record seventh title with a composed 2–0 victory over hosts Nkoma Secondary School.

Kawanda Secondary School reclaimed the netball title in dramatic fashion, overcoming Kaddugala Secondary School in an epic final that ended 31-30.

In volleyball, Kinaawa High School – Mugongo and Mbogo Mixed Secondary School continued their dominance, capturing the girls’ and boys’ titles respectively to extend their impressive records in the sport.

The annual multi-sport event attracted 47 schools, featuring 122 teams and a total of 1,591 छात्र-athletes competing across football, netball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, badminton, scrabble, and chess.

Hosted by Nkoma Secondary School under the theme “Faith, Unity and Excellence through Sports,” this year’s edition once again showcased the depth of talent and competitive spirit within school sports.
