FUBA names 13-man squad for FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers in Hammet, Tunisia

Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) have today Tuesday, the 13th February announced the squad ahead of the first round of FIBA AFROBASKET 2025 qualifiers.

The qualification tournament will be played between 22nd -25th of February in Tunisia.

13 players and coach Mandy Juruni Lutwama and his assistant Andrew Tendo Senyondwa have been summoned to start preparations.

They include Ivan Muhwezi, Fayed Baale, Titus Odeke, James Okello, Toby Drileba, Stanley Mugerwa, Edgar Munaba, Joel Kayiira, Robinson Odoch Opong, Emmanuel Timothy Wamala, Adam Seiko, Ishmail Wainwright and Alan Brandon Sebirumbi.

Window one of the FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers will tip off on 23rd February 2024 in Hammet, Tunisia.

After draws to the qualifiers conducted on 24 November in Johannesburg, South Africa, Uganda was pooled in Group B alongside Cape Verde who finished fourth in the last AfroBasket held in 2021 in Rwanda.

The group also has Nigeria and the winner of the pre-qualifiers between Zone 1 and 2 who include Algeria, Libya and Morocco.

Olympics-bound South Sudan is in Group A comprising of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Mali with the winner of the pre-qualifiers in Zone 6 Mauritius and Comoros completing the group .

The 2021 bronze medalists Senegal were pitted against Cameroon and Rwanda in Group C, and the winner of the Zone 3 and 4 pre-qualification tournament completing the list.

Reigning silver medalists Cote D’Ivoire landed Group D that has Zone 5 powerhouses Egypt, Central Africa Republic and the winner of the pre-qualifiers between Zone 5, Madagascar and Djibouti.

Title holders Tunisia have been pitted against Angola who finished fifth in 2021, Guinea and Kenya in Group E.

Teams from Groups A and C will begin their qualifying campaign to the 16-nation AfroBasket in November, in Egypt.
