Crowning deferred as Uganda Netball Federation postpones 2025 Super League awarding

The long-anticipated crowning ceremony for the 2025 Uganda Netball Super League champions has been postponed, casting uncertainty over what was expected to be a celebratory climax to the season.

The development was confirmed by Netball Uganda Federation president Joycline Ucanda during the ongoing Federation General Assembly at Copper Chimney Restaurant.

“We are not in a position to award our champions today. The executive is planning a well-organised environment for awarding of our champions,” Ucanda told delegates, signalling that the federation intends to stage a more befitting ceremony at a later date.

The postponement prolongs the wait for KCCA Netball Club, who clinched last year’s league title in dramatic fashion.

KCCA edged rivals Prisons Netball Club 44–41 on 29 December 2025 in a pulsating finale to secure the championship.

The triumph ended a 42-year title drought for KCCA, marking their first league crown since 1983.

Guided by coach Fred Mugerwa and his assistant JonathanSsegujja, the side demonstrated remarkable resilience and composure under pressure to seal a historic victory.

Yet, despite the magnitude of the achievement, the formal recognition of their accomplishment remains pending, with players and supporters still awaiting an official coronation months after the decisive win.
