CAF Africa Schools championship bronze medalists Kawempe receive heroic welcome on return
Kawempe Muslim Secondary School U-15 girls football team that won a bronze medal and USD150,000 at the recently concluded CAF Africa Schools championship received a heroic and VIP reception upon their return to the country.
The team returned home on Monday, the 27th May, 2024 amidst jubilations and celebrations.
After touching base at Entebbe International Airport at 1:30PM aboard Uganda Airways, they were received by the Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, the elder sister team that won the FUFA Women Super league yesterday after their iconic 2-0 win over money bags Kampala Queens.
Kawempe Muslim SS and Ladies FC sports department was also in company.
From the airport, the team was treated to a luncheon at Shaka Zulu Foods at Entebbe road courtesy of an Old student who owns the facility.
“We the founders of the Shaka Zulu Foods are OBs and OGs as well as parents at Kawempe Muslim.
Then why not support your own, why not support your kids?, so we saw it important for our children to have a lunch with us and as you know, we have the best food in the country.” Said Kaitesi Malukia, Marketing Manager, Shaka Zulu Foods.
While addressing the media, Kawempe Muslim captain Shadia Nabirye said, “Our target was to win the trophy but it didn’t work out and we have settled for a bronze medal and we’re happy for what Allah gave us.”
At 5PM, the contingent reached school amid an ongoing assembly waiting for the heroes.
Filled with a jubilant mood, the leader of delegation and team captain presented the dummy cheque and the trophy to the students who had already waited for them at the school parade.
Speaking on the behalf of the entire group, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC skipper Phiona Nabulime said, “We thank you for always cheering us, I know most of you did see the trophy when we won it but we have brought it to you here such that you witness the victory we got as a school and women football club. We’re also going to represent the country on continent”.
